Jared Nelson, Lincoln native, was raised in Northern California where he developed a passion for water while guiding whitewater rafting trips and playing in the ocean. He later moved back to Nebraska where he attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. After serving the first seven years post-graduation in the private sector, Jared now serves in the public sector as an Engineer for Watershed Management for the City of Lincoln. Jared is an avid outdoors man who loves camping, backpacking, riding his bicycles and traveling the world with his family. He is very eager to be a part of the Southern Heights Food Forest project and looks forward to assisting in finding the best solutions for economical, sustainable water management throughout the plot.
Sara Nelson is a Lincoln native with a passion for preparing and eating great food, particularly when it has been grown and harvested in a sustainable way. When she isn’t cooking or baking you can find her biking on Lincoln’s trails with her family or planning their next traveling adventure. Sara graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Textile Design and has been working for Nature Explore for the past four years in several different roles, currently serving as Client Services Manager. She is enthusiastic to be a part of the Southern Heights Food Forest project and looks forward not only for the great food it will someday bear but also seeing the children in the community engage in meaningful connections with nature while learning how food goes from seed to their plates.
